SKURC started operating as a studio and exhibition space on Népsziget in the summer of 2019, transforming the changing rooms and showers of the former MAHART shipyard workers into a community space. The aim is to provide a showcase and exhibition space for young artists and various art projects. With a changing number of members, we moved to a smaller space of our own in 2024, maintaining our independence. Our focus is on collaborations, whether national or international.
The term “skurc” as an artistic term in perspective painting is the apparent diminution of distant figures, or the representation of figures in foreshortening. Lines leading into depth converge and seem to meet at a distant vanishing point.
We’re a Budapest based collaborative artist-run gallery.
